Becoming a
Master
Gardener
Land
Care Steward Unit 1
This first unit introduces Master
Gardener—Land Care Stewards (MGLCS) and provides an overview of how MGLCS can
bring about positive change in their communities. The resources in this chapter
focus on two areas: 1) An
explanation of the need for new approaches to land care, and 2) The ways in
which volunteers are needed to help define and implement these new approaches to
land care management in their communities.

purpose and organization of Master Gardener—Land Care Stewards.

Gain an understanding the problems
with current approaches to land management systems and the need for new
solutions.

Learn the three “Rs” –
Reduce, reuse & recycle.

Familiarize yourself with the
issues inherent in living at the Wildland-Urban Interface.
